Is It Really "FDA Approved"?

On May 10, the US FDA issued a consumer update titled Is It Really FDA Approved. This is broadly believed to the first time FDA has clearly stated in one document the categories of regulated products that they do or do not approve. The document serves as a consumer guide to the ways FDA protects public health and what it does and does not regulate. In the document, FDA states that they do not approve dietary supplements. FDA also notes the misuse of their logo and that misuse of it is a violation of federal law. The update document also includes the fact that FDA does not approve “facilities” although the agency has authority to inspect regulated facilities. FDA also notes that it does not approve cosmetics or medical foods.
