AHPA Requests Tariff Relief from US Trade Representative
The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has requested the removal of punitive tariffs from a range of products relevant to the herbal products industry. These tariffs which were implemented during the previous presidential administration significant impact the supply chain and packaging for the herbal products industry. Many commodities used by the herbal products industry are still subject to ad valorem tax rates as high as 25%. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, turmeric and saffron are some of the commodities subject to the current tariff regime. Certain citrus fruits and botanicals such as mate and kola nuts are also included. High tariffs and pandemic-related trade disruptions have put increased pressure on the herbal products trade.
