FSA Provides Consumer Guidance on Refined Oils

The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) is advising consumers that some foods may now contain other food grade refined oils despite being labeled as containing sunflower oil. This guidance is given as the supply of sunflower oil is impacted by the war in Ukraine where a large volume of sunflower oil is produced. The FSA update advises consumers that fully refined palm oil, coconut oil, and soybean oil may be used in some products with label changes being required. The FSA carried out a rapid risk assessment to identify oils for substitution focused on potential allergen concerns.
