Last week, the USDA published several priority initiatives in the service of transparency and fair competition for poultry growers. USDA is focused on building fairer and more resilient markets for ranchers, farmers, and producers. To do this, the USDA published the first of what will be several priority initiatives supporting the Packers and Stockyards Act which protects livestock and poultry growers from unfair anti-competitive practices. The first proposed rule Transparency in Poultry Grower Contracting and Tournaments will provide critical contract information over the course of poultry growing arrangements and contracts. The rule also provides for fair payment using a poultry grower ranking system. Stakeholders and the public can review the proposed initiative and offer comments until August 8, 2022.
