Canada Announces the Implementation of CFSIN

On November 27, 2020, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the implementation of the Canadian Food Safety Information Network (CFSIN).  The aim of the CFSIN is to strengthen rapid response to food safety issues within the country.  The concept and objectives of CFSIN were formed during a 2008 outbreak of listeriosis that claimed the lives of 22 Canadians.  Following the outbreak, the Government of Canada recommended the establishment of an integrated network to better respond to future food safety emergencies.  The network will create a shared food safety data repository, provide analytical tools to identify emerging safety issues, and provide a platform for partners to share information and resources quickly and securely during food safety incidents.
