A Decade of Seafood Fraud - A Comprehensive Report

Seafood fraud is one of the most common frauds in the food supply chain. Christopher Elliott et al put together a comprehensive report “The 11 sins of seafood: Assessing a decade of food fraud reports in the global supply chain” which is based on data from the Food Fraud Database, HorizonScan, RASFF and other systems. The substitution of a high value fish for a cheaper alternative is the most common seafood fraud, representing over half of the fraud cases. Most of the reports throughout the decade were discussing prawns, eels and shrimp, followed by catfish.
