WSTA Sets Guidelines for Low / No Alcohol Product Names

The UK’s Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has provided guidance for the naming of low and / or no alcohol products that are designed as spirit drink substitutes.  While the terms “low alcohol” and “no alcohol” are defined in legislation, the naming conventions are less clear and could be misleading to consumers.  The WSTA guidance is designed to ensure that producers are labeling and marketing their products correctly and to solidify consumer confidence in these beverages. The guide identifies three types of these drinks based on ABV percentages, beverage source, and processes that dilute or remove alcohol.  Low and no alcohol products are becoming popular and taste more like their full alcohol spirit counterparts.
