South Korea Consults on Packaging Material Requirements

In late February, the S. Korea Ministry of Environment (MOE) released the draft of Guideline on Recycling Symbols and Standards of Labeling Quality and the draft of Structure of Packaging Material Grade.

One of the country’s objectives is to reduce plastic waste production by half as well as more than double recycling rates by 2030.  S. Korea is enforcing bans on hard to recycle products such as PVC and colored PET used in drink bottles.  A proposal for the use of an “Unable to Recycle” label is being considered as part of the draft guidelines above. The  consulting period for both ends on March 16.
