Metabolic effects of black cumin (Nigella sativa): a meta-analysis
This meta-analysis compiled data from 50 clinical trials assessing the metabolic effects of Nigella sativa supplementations. The authors reported a significant effect of N. sativa on total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol and VLDL-cholesterol. In addition, reductions were also noted in fasting blood glucose and HbA1c levels.
Therefore, this meta-analysis showed that N. sativa supplementations can have beneficial effects on blood lipids and glucose control, highlighting a potential anti-diabetic properties of black cumin, as a possible reduction in cardiovascular disease risk.
