FoodChain ID Testing Launches Digital PCR, a Highly Sensitive Testing Technology
Facilitates Market Entry for Processed Products
GMO quantification is often necessary in order to meet contract specifications, government regulations or program requirements. The current industry standard for GMO testing, Real-Time PCR, is sometimes unable to quantify GMO content in highly processed or multi-ingredient products. “Digital PCR is more robust than Real-Time PCR and can often provide a quantifiable GMO result for these types of products,” says Heather Secrist, PhD, CEO of FoodChain ID Testing NA, Inc. “For those customers who don’t have access to the input from which the product was produced, this additional technology can be extremely helpful in allowing entry of their product into the desired market.”
First A2LA-Accredited Laboratory to Receive Accreditation for Digital PCR
FoodChain ID Testing NA, Inc. has been ISO/IEC 17025 accredited since 2000 and was the first commercial laboratory in North America to offer PCR-based analysis of GMOs in food and agricultural products. The company expanded their scope of accreditation in June 2013 when The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) granted ISO 17025 accreditation for Digital PCR. FoodChain ID Testing was the first A2LA-accredited laboratory to receive accreditation for this technology. “We continue to identify and apply emerging technologies that can successfully address the needs of the marketplace” says Dr. Secrist, “and we’re pleased to be able to offer this as an accredited service.”
