FSANZ Receives Hemp Application

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has received an application to amend the Food Standards Code to permit the sale of low THC hemp leaf, seed sprout and root as food. The applicant believes these ingredients can readily be used in several foods such as beverages, salad ingredients, and tea infusions to create new, nutrition plant-based foods. This application acknowledges FSANZ will need to set maximum levels for THC content of low-THC hemp leaf, seed sprout and root foods that are consistent with the current levels for low-THC hemp seed and seed products, other than oil and beverages (5 mg/kg).
