FSANZ Publishes Consumer Information Regulation

On May 10, Food Safety Australia New Zealand published “Consumer Information Standards (Origin of Food) Regulations 2021”. The regulation prescribes consumer information requiring disclosure of origin or other information about regulated food items that are supplied, offered, supplied, or advertised for retail sale. The information is generally related to country of origin. There are also requirements and definitions related to terms such as “fresh” and “minimally processed”. Frozen foods will be excluded from the scope of the new regulation until May 2023.
