FSANZ Evaluating Use and Intake of Steviol Glycosides

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is currently evaluating the use of steviol glycosides in foods available across Australia and New Zealand to refine estimates of current dietary exposure.  The most recent estimates are based on currently available data (including industry data) and show dietary exposures approaching the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) in some population groups. While the data so far suggests no concerns as related to current permissions in the Code, this may not be the case as new applications seek permissions for the use of steviol glycosides across new food groups. Further dietary exposure assessments will be undertaken for both Australia and New Zealand to understand total exposure further.
