FDA Petitioned to Recall Deodorants

FDA received a citizen petition calling for tighter regulatory control of antiperspirant and deodorant body sprays as well as recall of certain products alleged benzene. An independent lab has tested and detected high levels of benzene in specific batches of body spray products. An independent lab is requesting the recall of specified lots. FDA recognizes that benzene is dangerous and therefore should not be a component of nor used in the manufacture of drugs or cosmetic products unless it is “unavoidable”. Generally speaking, detectable levels cannot be considered unavoidable.
