FDA Extends Comment Period on Sesame Allergen

The U.S. FDA has announced that it will extend the comment period on the draft guidance regarding voluntary disclosure of sesame as an allergen. The comment period will last through February 25 which is an extension of 45 days. Many organizations are pleased about the extension so that they can provide additional comments on food allergies. Currently, sesame may be present but undeclared in foods containing some spices and flavorings. Once the comment period closes in February, the FDA will begin work on its final guidance.
