Europe Draft Legislation on HAD (hydroxyanthracene derivatives)

Draft EC Commission regulation would amend Annex III to Regulation (EC) 1925/2006 with regards to botanical species containing hydroxyanthracene derivatives.  Part A of the annex proposal would ban preparations from the leaf of Aloe species containing HAD and the substances aloe-emodin, emodin, and danthron as well as any preparations in which these substances are present. Species such as Cassia and Rhamnus could continue to be marketed with some ppm level limitations in place.  The EU plans to review and scrutinize other plants that contain HAD and address these as well.  The amended regulation could be published later this month and would be directly applicable with no specific transition period.
