EFSA Updates Food Enzyme Safety Evaluation Guidance

EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has updated scientific guidance on the submission of food enzyme information dossiers for safety evaluations. The updated guidance includes new criteria for dietary exposure estimations and sets forth some conditions for which toxicological tests are not required. The guidance also takes into consideration recent scientific developments regarding risk assessments for food enzymes. The information for toxicology, allergenicity and dietary exposure applies to all food enzymes independent of the source. The new guidance was published earlier this month.
