EFSA Consultation on Draft Opinion on Alpha-Lipoic Acid Intake
12 February 2021
Earlier this month EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) launched a consultation on its draft opinion on alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) pursuant to a request from the European Commission. The draft opinion discusses data on the relationship between ALA (also known as thioctic acid) and the risk of insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS). The document investigates the assertion that a dose may be set below which ALA is added to foods is not expected to cause IAS in the general population or known vulnerable subgroups. Interested parties may submit comments through February 25 using an electronic template provided by EFSA.
