Effects of Coriolus versicolor supplementation in patients with Meniere's vertigo.
In this controlled study the effects of 2 months of supplementation with 3 g/d of a biomass preparation from Coriolus versicolor (3 tablets of 500 g every 12 h) on 40 individuals with Meniere’s disease (MD) peripheral blood antioxidant levels were measures to evaluate systemic oxidative stress and cellular stress response.
Results showed a significant (p < 0.01) induction, after Coriolus treatment, of vitagenes such as heme oxygenase-1, Hsp70,heat shock proteins 70, thioredoxin , sirtuin-1, and gamma-GC liase in lymphocyte and a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the plasma ratio-reduced glutathione vs. oxidized glutathione.
In conclusion, patients with MD are under conditions of systemic oxidative stress, and the induction of vitagenes after mushroom supplementation indicates a maintained response to counteract intracellular pro-oxidant status.
