Chlorpyrifos Lack of EU Renewal Creates Business Challenges
24 July 2020
Earlier this year, EFSA issued a final review report stating that “the approval of chlorpyrifos in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 should not be renewed”. Member states wereasked to withdraw related authorizations for this pesticide in February, and a default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg was put in place.
There has been no formal guidance on products already in the marketplace leaving food and beverage companies holding significant inventory struggling to comply. Chlorpyrifos is broadly used on soybean, corn, citrus, and nut crops. It has approvals in approximately 100 countries.
