Alcohol Marketing and the UK Health Care Bill

The Alcohol Health Alliance is campaigning for the UK’s Health Care Bill which will restrict advertising of high fat, salt, and sugar products to include alcohol. Furthermore, the group is asking the UK to enact more comprehensive restrictions to limit alcohol marketing in line with WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines. A report released earlier this week shows that the bombardment of alcohol advertising may make it difficult for those in recovery from alcohol addiction as well as normalize rum or alcohol consumption for young and vulnerable people. Currently, many alcohol advertisements in the UK are broadcast on television prior to 9 pm which is peak time for child viewers. Some countries including Russia, Iceland, Sweden, Switzerland and France have already restricted alcoholic beverage promotion.
