FEMA (Flavor Extract Manufacturers Association) announced that it is preparing to conduct its regular confidential poundage and technical effects survey of flavor ingredients used in the United States during 2020. This survey is part of a global initiative coordinated by IOFI (International Organization of the Flavor Industry). The collection of current poundage data is important for many reasons including support of the FEMA GRAS program for post-market exposure monitoring. Poundage information is also submitted to global scientific and regulatory authorities and used to support advocacy activities. The annual poundage data has been collected for the past 60 years and was previously sponsored by the FDA. The poundage data is provided by flavor manufacturers and some food and beverage companies as well.
