What We Mean By Food Certification

When people speak about food certification they could be referring to one of two things. Firstly they may be talking about the standards that food manufacturers have to comply to in order to sell their products to the general public.  These global certification standards govern food manufacturing, delivery, storage and serving and will involve businesses needing to be audited to ensure that they come up to scratch in terms of their operation.

Secondly they could be referring to the food safety and hygiene training that all those working within the food industry will need to undertake in order to make sure that their company complies to strict regulations that govern the way food is prepared, stored and handled.   It is not just those working on food production lines or serving food items to customers that will need to undertake this type of training but it is also those involved in maintenance such as cleaners, electricians, plumbers and pest control experts operating within food industry premises who will need to be aware of food safety regulations.

Food certification international companies will deal with legislation in Europe and Worldwide as well in the UK.  This is primarily to help those businesses that export their food products overseas to meet with the necessary standards and guidelines that will enable their products to be added to the shelves in their target country.

Companies will most likely need to comply with BRC standards as these are the globally recognised standards within the food industry. This standard provides a benchmark for practices within the food industry and companies involved in food manufacturing will need to be audited to determine whether or not they are suitable for BRC food certification international. By joining an enrolment programme companies can prepare themselves for auditing and increase their chances of being awarded this important certification.

Whether it is certification for the business operations or staff practices, it is all an important part of ensuring that businesses involved in the food industry produce, handle, store and deliver food items correctly and safely so they are fit for consumption.
