USDA Issues Final Rule Inspection of Egg Products

Earlier this year, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) amended the egg products inspection regulations to require that official plants that process egg products develop and implement HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) Systems along with Sanitization Standard Operating Procedures.  The rule includes other revisions including the elimination of the prohibition of irradiated shell eggs for use in egg products and products containing eggs.  One goal of this rule is to align the safety requirements for eggs more closely with those for meat and poultry.  This rule takes effect on December 28, 2020.
