Some specifications require food or feed products to be tested for GMO content. Both qualitative and quantitative GMO testing options are available using the DNA-based method, PCR (polymerase chain reaction). GMO tests based on PCR are used worldwide to verify contracts and to ensure regulatory compliance.

Testing for microbes such as Salmonella and Enterobacteriaceae is often needed to conform to food/feed safety regulatory policy or programs. Our laboratories utilize several testing methodologies to offer customizable options for the intended product market.

FoodChain ID Testing has comprehensive tests for detection and identification of animal by-products in animal feed and for the determination of the actual species contained in meat products.

These tests help clients comply with current European Union, Japanese, U.S., and other country regulations prohibiting animal products in food and feed.

More than 30 services are available to FoodChain ID Testing clients through our Certification and Technical Services divisions including GFSI food safety certification, organic, Non-GMO Project verification, gluten-free, plus access to quality management software, food safety training and consulting and much more.

FoodChain ID Testing’s Food Authenticity program is a risk based management program designed to ensure brand protection by identifying and eliminating food fraud threats.

Continued growth depends on rapid innovation and commercialization. Our R&D department has been at the forefront of genetic testing technology for more than 20 years. Several contract services are provided including high through-put sample DNA extraction, assay development, and assay validation.

Selecting the Right Test

Within these application areas, a wide variety of testing variations may apply. FoodChain ID Testing has pioneered the most accurate and reliable testing methods available today. Selecting the optimal testing protocol depends on comprehensive knowledge of the standards and the regulatory environments that apply. Our technical experts will help you efficiently maneuver through this selection process.

Knowing the Regulations

A key component of success in testing depends on knowing the current status of export/import regulations. Working with an international network of operations and laboratories, FoodChain ID Testing’s team of world-class technical and regulatory specialists are ready to help you navigate the complex GMO regulatory landscape. FoodChain ID Testing enjoys a strong reputation for accuracy and reliability among government agencies internationally. Our experience allows us to skillfully guide our customers past GMO market hurdles.

FoodChain ID Testing Services

Testing is the foundation of a successful quality assurance system, demanding rigorous, sensitive, and accurate technology and real-world expertise.
GMO testing is used to detect and quantify the presence of GMOs. FoodChain ID Testing can reliably detect nearly all commercialized genetically modified organisms including specific GMO varieties. Additional services include animal speciation, microbiological, gluten, and food authenticity testing.

PCR Testing: Recognized Worldwide as Most Rigorous, Sensitive, and Accurate.

PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing is used worldwide to verify contracts and ensure regulatory compliance. PCR detects genetically modified DNA directly, and is therefore highly sensitive. PCR-based tests screen for GMO by trait, event, or generic screening construct and are therefore capable of detecting all GMOs. Furthermore, PCR is highly effective with a much broader array of sample types than immunoassays such as ELISA and strip tests. Finally, and most importantly, PCR provides definitive quantification of GMO level because the analysis is performed directly at the DNA level. For these reasons, FoodChain ID Testing primarily uses PCR methods.
