South Korea Enforces Resource Recycling Act
10 November 2020
In late September, the “Resource Recycling Act” came into effect and enforcement began. This has significant impact for food and beverage companies who use plastics and other limited raw materials in their packaging. South Korea is enforcing its ban on plastic materials that are difficult to recycle such as colored PET bottles and labels that are difficult to remove for recycling. Colorless PET is easier to recycle, and labels that have easy to remove adhesive also make recycling cheaper and easier. This Act is part of the country’s goal of doubling recycling rates by 2030 and also reducing plastic waste production.
