Some Remarks on the SCIP Database
Producers, importers and suppliers who are using officially listed SVHCs (substances of very high concern) in a concentration above 0.1% by weight on the EU market, either imported into or produced in the EU, have to make a submission into SCIP, the database for information on Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products).
The SCIP database registers the information throughout the entire lifecycle of a product. The database is active as a prototype since mid-2020 and is supposed to support the circular economy including waste management. Many companies submitted large amounts of data to SCIP, just before end of last year two million entries were made including a large amount of irrelevant data, including substances that did not contain officially listed SVHCs.
