Many of us may still remember the BSE scare, also known as mad cow disease, a fatal neurodegenerative disorder. Prion diseases, short for Protein Infections, entered the livestock feed chain five decades ago, and made their way into the human food chain. Misfolded proteins are responsible for these diseases, however, it is not entirely clear whether there are additional molecules responsible for these diseases.
