FoodChain ID Verifies Its 35,000th Product, Appoints New CEO

Fairfield, Iowa (Oct. 17, 2015) – FoodChain ID today announced that it has verified its 35,000th product for the Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program. Non-GMO Project Verified is one of the fastest growing markets in natural foods, with industry-wide annual sales in North America topping $16 billion.

As a technical administrator for the Non-GMO Project since 2007, FoodChain ID has worked with more than 2,400 companies, including many of the industry’s leading brands, to ensure that their products meet the technical requirements necessary to earn the use of the Non-GMO Project’s popular Butterfly label. FoodChain ID’s verification work has encompassed more than 20,000 ingredients from 12,000 suppliers in over 100 countries.

In addition, FoodChain ID announced the promotion of David Carter from general manager to chief executive officer.

Carter has been with FoodChain ID for 10 years, helping to design and administer the Product Verification Program. Carter built FoodChain ID’s global verification team and oversaw the implementation of SupplyTrak, the cloud-based software platform hundreds of companies use daily to maintain their product and ingredient compliance data. To meet this continuing growth, FoodChain ID’s staff has increased by 50 percent since January 2015 to over 30 professionals including specialists in the more complex areas of supplements, personal care, meat and dairy.

“FoodChain ID was engaged to verify the first products for the Non-GMO Project when the program launched,” said Carter. “Now, nine years and 35,000 verifications later, we can confidently say we’ve managed virtually every compliance challenge to get our clients’ products verified and into the market. We look forward to continue serving the non-GMO market as it expands deeper into conventional, as well as natural food brands.”
