New Forms of Stevia Pending Approval

A large global stevia supplier has received a positive safety assessment from EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) for the use of its Reb M, Reb D and Reb AM stevia extracts which are produced via bioconversion of stevia leaf substances. Furthermore, the EFSA opinion also recognizes that there are around 60 molecules from the stevia leaf that are safe for human consumption. Final regulatory approval from the European Commission is expected later this year. The new range of stevia extracts produced via bioconversion will be commercially available to European food and beverage companies pending full EC approval. The new stevia process is timely as the EU is experiencing tremendous product innovation around healthier alternatives including foods and beverages with reduced or no sugar.
