Microplastic Degradation Research at INRS

Once microplastic gets into wastewater, it is nearly impossible to remove efficiently. At the Institut National de la Recherche Scientific (INRS) in Quebec, anodic oxidation laboratory tests for plastic particles degradation looked promising. The electrolytic oxidation process showed a 89% efficiency in degrading polystyrene into CO2 and water. The research will now move towards experiments with real wastewater which may be more challenging due to a mix of pollutants.
