FSA Announces List of Permitted CBD Products

The United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has unveiled a list of cannabinoid products that can be sold to consumers. This makes the UK the first country globally to regulate the market for orally consumed safe legal cannabis extracts. The formal list is expected to be published in 2023 following two years of collaborative work between FSA and the UK’s CBD sector trade associations.  The list is in line with the UK’s novel foods requirements, so only CBD products on the FSA list may remain on shelves.  The FSA has been rigorously assessing CBD products for some time following the novel foods legislation as an approval pathway. The deadline for dossier submission was March 2021. The FSA list applies to England and Wales, while Food Standards Scotland will cover CBD products on sale there. Northern Ireland will continue to adhere to the EU processes for novel foods.
