A Discussion about Food Additives

There is a myriad of reasons why natural and synthetic food additives are (intentionally) added to food and beverage products: improvement of food processing,  shelf life, optics, aroma and taste, texture and many more. Food additives are usually used in small quantities and are extensively regulated in the US and around the world in order to ensure health and safety of the consumer. Examples for food additives mentioned in the report are preservatives like nitrites and nitrates, food color, and artificial sweeteners.
