Protectionism caused by food supply insecurities on the rise

Countries are acting increasingly protective about their food supply, and in some cases are closing their borders to exports. Malaysia has banned chicken exports, while India is banning the export of wheat and Indonesia no longer allows palm oil exports. Countries who depend on food imports experience major disruptions to their food supply chains, and in some cases are struggling to get sufficient food. These shortages of food are opening the door for food fraud and criminal activities and may impact the quality of some foods.
