Regulation (EC) 1881/2006 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs was amended on 12 August 2022 by Regulation (EU) 2022/1393, setting maximum levels for delta-9-THC in hemp seeds and derived products. A maximum level of 3 ppm has been set for hemp seed, whether whole, ground or partially defatted, and its derived products, with the exception of oil, for which a maximum level of 7.5 ppm has been set. Derived products are all products processed exclusively from hemp seed.

This text will enter into force on 1 January 2023. The foodstuffs concerned by this new regulation and legally placed on the market before 1 January 2023 can remain on the market until their date of minimum durability or their use-by date.
