Edible Packaging Coming Soon
A recent new study indicates that some European consumers show support for edible packaging. The study also revealed that many consumers are unlikely to make drastic changes to their consumption such as giving up meat to increase planetary health and sustainability. The British in particular are unwilling to give up meat or adopt plant-based milk alternatives. These market insights vary according to country with India consumers being more willing to forego meat and dairy in favor of more plant-based eating. One idea that got considerable support from most consumers is edible packaging. Creating edible packaging materials that contain fiber, colors, flavors, and health-promoting compounds. The edible packaging market is already vigorous, and an example is sausage casing made of edible cellulose. Edible packaging could reduce plastic waste and eventually offer nutrition.
