Precise analyzes for food and feed
FoodChain ID - Your experienced partner for GMO analysis
Genetically modified plants or genetically modified organisms - GMOs for short - are commercially cultivated worldwide and new varieties are continuously being developed. The approval, labeling and market introduction of GMOs is handled differently in many parts of the world, in the EU mainly by the regulations with the numbers 1829/2003 and 1830/2003 [link].
GMO analysis is in FoodChain ID's company DNA, so to speak - and has been for more than 25 years, coinciding with the introduction of the first genetically modified crops in the USA. Since then, we have been helping our customers in the food and feed industry to successfully overcome all challenges and issues surrounding GMOs. We offer the full range of accredited qualitative and quantitative testing methods for all EU-approved and very many non-approved GMOs.
This know-how, which has grown over many years, coupled with state-of-the-art technologies, also allows FoodChain ID to sequence new GMOs and develop targeted detection methods for them. With us as your partner, you are thus also prepared for extraordinary situations.
Our experienced account managers support you in selecting the optimal testing strategy, also taking into account different country-specific GMO regulations, possible sources of GMO admixtures and your individual requirements.
FoodChain ID offers you a wide range of qualitative and quantitative GMO analysis options, the scope of which can be individually adapted to your products and your customers' requirements.
Without genetic engineering (VLOG)
The seal "Ohne GenTechnik" for food, respectively "VLOG" tested for feed, is exclusively awarded by the Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik e.V.. (VLOG) [Link]. The prerequisite for this is certification in accordance with the currently valid VLOG standard [Link].
GMO analysis of food and feed is necessary to prove compliance with the standard specifications. Since 2019, only VLOG-recognized laboratories are allowed to perform analyses under a "Ohne GenTechnik" or "VLOG geprüft" claim.
FoodChain ID Testing GmbH has a VLOG recognition for all types of testing [Link].
The Non-GMO Project's butterfly logo can now be found on countless food products in the United States. Initially conceived as an additional verification of USDA organic certified products, it is now also commonly used in the conventional sector.
The awarding of the seal by the Non-GMO Project requires verification by external certifiers or so-called Technical Administrators. GMO analyses required in this context may also only be carried out by approved laboratories. All FoodChain ID laboratories have this approval [link, certificate].
By the way, more than 75 percent of all products with the butterfly logo are verified by our branch in the USA [Link].
