Company to Relabel Certain Crackers to Reflect Whole Grain Content

A large food company will voluntarily be relabeling certain crackers to reflect whole grain content more accurately. The new packages and labels will disclose the percentage of grains that are whole grains. In addition, the claims made will be modified to state “with” or “made with” in larger font so that the information is more prominent to consumers. Other food companies are set to make similar changes which are advocated by the Center of Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). The 2020 – 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended Americans consume half their grains from whole grain sources and the remainder from enriched grain. Knowing the percentage of whole grain in foods helps consumers make more informed choices to ensure they consume enough whole grains.
