Coffee Study Indicates the Morning Beverage May Help Drinkers Live Longer
Earlier this month, scientists in China completed a study that links consumption of moderate amounts of coffee to a lower death risk. The study did not differentiate between unsweetened and sweetened coffee and did not draw conclusions based on artificial sweetener use. The study suggests that the mortality risk of people who drank 1.5 to 3.5 cups of coffee per day was an average of 30% lower than that of people who did not drink coffee. This could be attributed partly to the antioxidant properties coffee is known to offer or to the benefits coffee is thought to have on the gut microbiome. More studies are needed to understand other dietary factors.
