Bulgaria Passes New Food Act

Bulgaria passed its new Food Act in June so that it took effect earlier this month.  The country’s new Food Act is an overarching regulatory framework for food processing and trade and is a step towards more fully harmonizing Bulgaria’s food laws with the European Union legistlation.  The Act requires improved traceability as well as addresses gaps in notification requirements.  It further defines requirements for country of origin indications.  The Act also introduces several new concepts that may require in-practice interpretation including some nuances around the notification process.  Decernis offers expert consulting services to enhance understanding of national and EU requirements around notification and registration.
