Breakfast Cereal Seized in Mexico
Last month, Mexican officials seized 388,000 of cereal claimed to be in violation of a law prohibiting marketing of allegedly “unhealthy” products to children by using cartoons to appeal them. Officials in Mexico are seriously focused on the obesity spiral which is said to effect nearly 75% of the general population there. The cereal company involved stated that it wishes to provide healthy and nutritious choices to consumers of all ages. The company will work with Mexican authorities to resolve the matter and provide products that conform to the health decrees of Mexico. Revised cereal product is being shipped. Mexico is one of many countries enacting regulations to limit marketing of certain foods to children.
