Antiretrovirals Misuse in Meat Production

To control diseases in livestock and for rapid growth, farmers in Uganda are using antiretroviral drugs on their pigs and cows, which can pose significant problems. Drugs normally used to treat HIV in humans can have an impact on public health, leading to obesity and other problems in HIV-negative, and to drug resistance in HIV-positive people. This is becoming an increasingly wide-spread problem in Uganda, where per capita consumption of meat is quite significant.
