Albacorilla, Not A Novel Food
23 May 2022
Albacore, also known as swordfish in Chile, is a prized fish. During a study at the University of Chile, DNA of fish was analyzed. In several cases, swordfish was substituted by shark or shark was sold under made-up names like Albacorilla. Unfortunately, several species of shark are endangered and need protection instead of overfishing. The authors of the study recommend checking samples of commercial seafood with identification methods, and to educate consumers about fish species and labeling.
